What can you expect during a typical morning service at Calvary?
When you attend one of our morning services, you can expect to find us using responsive readings from the Psalms, praying based on the Word of God, singing songs that are based on the Word of God, teaching the Word of God verse by verse, and reflecting on the Word of God after the teaching times. In other words, we want our services to be saturated with God and His Word. For this we make no apologies.
Most people dress in what is commonly known as business casual style. You will find a welcoming atmosphere at Calvary. A recent visitor said, "It feels like home."
What kind of music does Calvary use?
The musical aspect of our congregational gatherings is governed by the New Testament teaching on music, primarily the expression "teaching and admonishing one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs" (Ephesians 5:19). We seek to find an appropriate balance of these three aspects of music. The music style of Calvary would probably be considered conservative though we also incorporate newer songs that utilize sound theology and appropriate music.
What is the teaching like at Calvary?
The normal teaching at Calvary consists of reading, explaining, and applying the Word of God verse by verse through a particular book of the Bible. Occasionally we will address a specific topic or theme based upon Biblical principles. The focus in our teaching is to show how God reveals Himself in the passage to be looked at that day. Practical application is pursued throughout the teaching, but more deliberately at the end of each sermon.
Time is provided following the teaching for personal meditation and reflection on what has been taught.
During our Family Bible Time and Wednesday night services, questions are strongly encouraged. Normally there is a fair amount of group discussion.
People are available and willing to answer any questions you may have. Just stop and ask someone.
