About Our Elders
Calvary Baptist is blessed to be shepherded by a pastoral team of three elders: Phil Siefkes, Jeff Jakobitz, and Mike Langer.
Phil Siefkes came to Calvary in December of 1985. He is a 1981 graduate of Pillsbury Baptist Bible College in Owatonna, MN. Phil is a 1985 graduate (M.Div.) of Central Baptist Theological Seminary in Minneapolis, MN. He also graduated with a Doctor of Ministries degree in Biblical (Nouthetic) Counseling from Trinity Theology Seminary of Newburgh, IN in 1994. While thankful for this formal education, Phil considers his daily time in the Word and prayer and the various trials of life as having better equipped him to serve at Calvary.
Jeff Jakobitz has served as a missionary in Central America and Africa, as a lay-elder in a large metropolitan church in Minneapolis, and other Christian service responsibilities. He brings to the leadership team a genuine Godward passion, a passion to teach people the truths of God's Word, and a wealth of God-given wisdom and practical insight.
Mike Langer is the most recent addition to our elders. A native of southern Minnesota, he has been involved in churches here in Minnesota, including serving as pastor in an established congregation, as well as a church plant. His knowledge of the Word and pastoral experience are a tremendous asset.
In their teaching and discipling, our pastors seek to make practical application of God's totally sufficient Word to everyday living. They firmly believes that God has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness (2nd Peter 1:3; 2nd Timothy 3:16-17).
Our pastors utilize the New American Standard Bible, the New King James Bible, and the English Standard Version. All three of these conservative translations are faithful to the original Hebrew and Greek texts.
